Do I need consent to request a credit report?

Yes, as per the National Credit Act no.34 of 2005, as amended, and Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“the POPI Act”), written consent is required before credit information may be accessed. Please refer to our Legal Centre (https://creditdata.co.za/terms/) – “The Subscriber undertakes that it will obtain the Consent of the Consumer for an enquiry to be made to a Credit Bureau for Consumer Credit Information before a Subscriber requests information from Cred-it-Data and/or a Credit Bureau, if such Consent is required by the applicable Prescribed Purpose.”
